PSM CEO Charged Over RM1.45 Million Graft Linked To RM8.7 Million Tender

Malaysia Stadium Corporation (PSM) chief executive officer Illiyas Jamil was charged in the Sessions Court today with seven corruption charges involving RM1.45 million linked to an RM8.73 million project to upgrade the National Squash Centre in Bukit Jalil.

The 42-year-old pleaded not guilty to all charges before Judge Suzana Hussin.

According to the charge sheet, Illiyas allegedly solicited RM1 million from contractor Yap Yeow Kuen as an inducement to award Aerolux Power Constructions Sdn Bhd the tender for the project.

He also faces six additional charges of allegedly receiving RM450,000 in cash from Yap between Feb 25 and April 13 this year as gratification for selecting the company to undertake the project.

The offences were allegedly committed at the PSM office in Kuala Lumpur Sports City and at a restaurant in Sri Petaling.

The charges were brought under Section 16(a)(B) of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission Act 2009, which carries a maximum jail term of 20 years and a fine upon conviction.

The court granted Illiyas bail of RM100,000 with one Malaysian surety, ordered him to surrender his passport, report to the MACC monthly and refrain from contacting prosecution witnesses.

The case has been fixed for mention on July 27.
