Teck Guan Perdana Clarifies Reason For Cocoa Unit To Expand Into Palm Oil

Teck Guan Perdana Berhad has clarified that the expansion of business activities by its wholly-owned subsidiary, Tawau Cocoa Estate Sdn. Bhd. (TCE), to include oil palm nursery and seedling operations is aligned with the group’s existing plantation business.

The company said the additional activities are part of efforts to support its ongoing oil palm plantation operations, particularly replanting activities and the management of oil palm seedlings.

The clarification follows the company’s earlier announcement dated 12 June 2026 regarding the change in the nature of business of TCE.

Teck Guan Perdana said the group has historically carried out replanting activities and managed oil palm seedlings internally to meet the requirements of its plantation operations.

“With the inclusion of oil palm nursery operations, TCE aims to ensure a stable supply of quality seedlings while supporting future replanting needs,” the company said.

The group added that TCE may also undertake the sale of oil palm seedlings to third parties when suitable business opportunities arise.

The move is expected to strengthen the group’s plantation ecosystem by improving supply security and enhancing operational efficiency in its oil palm cultivation activities.
