Sparking Conversations On Obesity

Three of Malaysia’s best-known female celebrities – Siti Nordiana, Diana Danielle and Shila Amzah – have joined forces with the telehealth platform OVA to encourage more open conversations about weight and women’s health.

According to the National Health and Morbidity Survey, 54.4% of Malaysian women are overweight or obese. Beyond the numbers, excess weight is linked to a higher risk of conditions including diabetes, hypertension and cardiovascular disease.

The campaign seeks to challenge long-held perceptions around obesity by highlighting that weight management is influenced by a complex mix of factors, including biology, hormones, lifestyle and life stages, rather than willpower alone.

The initiative also shines a light on a lesser-known issue. Many people living with obesity do not recognise it as a medical condition, which can delay treatment and increase the risk of related health complications. The campaign hopes that greater awareness will encourage more women to seek advice and support earlier.

At the launch event, Siti Nordiana spoke about how motherhood, career demands and everyday pressures have shaped her health journey. Diana Danielle reflected on navigating public scrutiny as her body changed over the years, while Shila Amzah shared how becoming a mother transformed the way she thinks about long-term health and wellbeing.

Their stories may be different, but the message is the same: there is no one-size-fits-all approach to weight management. Hormones, biology, life stages and daily responsibilities can all play a role, making the conversation far more complex than simple lifestyle choices.

Supporting the campaign is OVA’s digital healthcare platform, which offers online consultations with licensed doctors, personalised treatment plans and ongoing medical support. By making care more convenient and accessible, the platform aims to help women prioritise their health without having to put their lives on hold.

Ultimately, the campaign is about replacing judgement with understanding. By encouraging honest conversations and improving access to professional care, OVA and its ambassadors hope to empower more women to take charge of their health and make informed decisions about their wellbeing.
