Heavy Rain, Gusty Winds Sweep Across Peninsular, Sarawak

Several areas in Peninsular Malaysia and Sarawak are expected to experience thunderstorms, heavy rain and strong winds until noon today, according to the Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia).

The affected areas include Langkawi in Kedah; the Southwest and Northeast districts of Penang; and Klang in Selangor.

In Sarawak, the warning covers Saratok and Kabong in Betong, Sarikei, Mukah, Tatau and Bintulu in Bintulu Division, as well as Subis, Miri and Marudi in Miri Division.

MetMalaysia said the warning is issued when there are indications of thunderstorms producing rainfall exceeding 20mm per hour that are imminent or expected to persist for more than an hour.

The department noted that thunderstorm warnings are short-term alerts and are valid for no more than six hours from the time of issuance.
