Malaysia’s position on the recently announced United States-Iran peace memorandum, progress on trade negotiations with Washington and concerns over rising synthetic drug abuse are among the key issues expected to dominate proceedings in the Dewan Rakyat today.
During the Minister’s Question Time, the Foreign Ministry is expected to address Malaysia’s stance on the US-Iran memorandum aimed at ending military conflict in West Asia and the government’s role in supporting long-term regional peace. The Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry will also be questioned on the status of the MADANI Mart initiative, while the Tourism, Arts and Culture Ministry is set to explain the economic impact of the Rain Rave Water Music Festival 2026 under the Visit Malaysia 2026 campaign.
Among the oral questions, the Home Ministry is expected to face scrutiny over the growing use of synthetic drugs and fentanyl-related threats after reports that 70% of addiction cases involve synthetic substances.
Trade and investment matters are also expected to feature prominently, with questions on the status of the Agreement on Reciprocal Trade (ART) between Malaysia and the US, the potential impact of the US-Iran conflict on Malaysia’s semiconductor industry and the country’s strategic position amid rising geopolitical tensions affecting global supply chains.
Healthcare-related issues will also be closely watched, including proposals to strengthen collaboration between government clinics and private general practitioners, the migration of Malaysian doctors to Singapore, shortages of specialist doctors in the public sector and the future of contract healthcare workers.
Other notable topics include immigration system disruptions, online scam losses, MyKad security, border enforcement in Sabah and Sarawak, housing affordability, climate change adaptation and transport congestion in the Klang Valley.
