Lazada Trims 5% Of Southeast Asia Workforce In Restructuring Move

Lazada is reducing around 5% of its workforce across Southeast Asia as the e-commerce company moves to streamline operations and align roles with current business needs, with workers in Singapore among those affected.

The company said on Tuesday that it is “reviewing selected roles” across the region as part of a wider effort to remain focused and efficient. It added that it is committed to supporting affected employees through the transition in line with local requirements.

While Lazada did not disclose the total number of jobs cut or specific roles affected, the restructuring spans its six markets in Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam.

In Singapore, the company is working with the Food, Drinks and Allied Workers Union (FDAWU) to ensure affected employees receive support during the transition. The union confirmed it was informed in advance and is coordinating assistance for impacted members.

Sankaradass S Chami, FDAWU general secretary, said the union will work with Lazada to ensure the layoffs are conducted responsibly and in accordance with the Tripartite Advisory on Managing Excess Manpower and Responsible Retrenchment as well as the Fair Retrenchment Framework by the National Trades Union Congress.

Affected union members will be given one year of union membership and access to training grant support, alongside job and skills assistance through NTUC-linked programmes.

The latest round of job cuts comes amid continued restructuring in the regional tech and e-commerce sector, with companies adjusting headcount to improve efficiency following rapid expansion in previous years.
