PERKESO Approves 136 LINDUNG 24 Jam Claims Worth RM670,000 Since June 1

The Social Security Organisation (PERKESO) has approved 136 claims worth RM672,743.10 under its LINDUNG 24 Jam Scheme since its launch on June 1, covering contributors involved in accidents outside working hours.

Human Resources Minister Datuk Seri R. Ramanan said the approved claims account for 62.9% of applications received under the scheme, which extends PERKESO’s protection beyond workplace accidents to include incidents during rest days, public holidays and other non-working hours.

He said the expanded coverage closes a long-standing protection gap by ensuring insured persons continue receiving assistance even when accidents occur outside official working hours.

Among the early beneficiaries were two workers involved in a fatal road accident in Simpang Renggam, Johor, a Community-Based Rehabilitation Organisation (PPDK) employee in Sabah who sustained fractures after a vehicle plunged into a ravine while returning from a hiking trip, and a used-car company runner in Perak who fractured her wrist after slipping at an eatery.

The Sabah employee is receiving Temporary Disablement Benefit payments during her medical leave while being monitored by PERKESO’s Prihatin Squad.

Ramanan said the early claims demonstrate the importance of round-the-clock social security protection, noting that accidents can occur anytime regardless of whether a person is at work.

He urged employers and employees to ensure PERKESO contributions remain up to date so contributors are fully protected both during and outside working hours.
