Candidate Nominations Begin For Johor State Election

The nomination process for the Johor state election is officially underway, with all 56 nomination centres across the state opening simultaneously at 9am to receive nomination papers from aspiring candidates.

Candidates have until 10am to submit their nomination forms to their respective returning officers, after which the Election Commission (EC) will announce the list of eligible candidates.

Upon completion of the verification process, the 14-day campaign period will begin and run until 11:59pm on July 10, with early voting scheduled for July 7 and polling day for July 11.

According to the EC, around 2.73 million voters are eligible to cast their ballots in the election, comprising 2.7 million ordinary voters, 12,041 military personnel and their spouses, and 12,710 police personnel and their spouses.

Weather forecasts indicated morning rain in several districts, including Johor Bahru, Muar and Batu Pahat, with thunderstorms expected across much of the state later in the day.
