PLUS Warns Heavy Vehicle Operators Over Height Limits After Recent Highway Incidents

PLUS Malaysia Berhad has reminded all heavy vehicle operators and transport drivers to strictly comply with height restrictions on highways following several recent incidents involving low loader vehicles carrying loads exceeding permissible limits.

The highway operator said such breaches have led to damage to infrastructure, safety risks for other road users and severe traffic congestion and delays. It stressed that safety remains its top priority and warned that any negligence involving load and height violations will be taken seriously.

“PLUS Malaysia Berhad (PLUS) reminds all transport operators and heavy vehicle drivers to strictly comply with the established road safety regulations,” the company said.

“The safety of highway users remains PLUS’ utmost priority. In this regard, PLUS views any breach of load and height restrictions seriously and urges all logistics companies and heavy vehicle drivers to ensure that the dimensions of their loads are carefully checked before starting their journey.”

PLUS set out several safety measures for operators to follow, including ensuring the total vehicle height, including cargo, does not exceed 5 metres or any route-specific limit. It also urged drivers to plan routes in advance and secure Special Movement Permits where required.

“Comply with Height Restrictions Ensure that the overall height of the vehicle, including its load, does not exceed 5 metres or any specific height limit prescribed for the respective route and highway structures.”

“Plan Your Route in Advance Vehicles transporting oversized or abnormal loads must carefully plan their travel routes and obtain the necessary Special Movement Permit from the relevant authorities prior to the journey.”

Drivers were also reminded to observe height clearance signage at gantries, overhead bridges, flyovers and toll plazas, and to use designated toll lanes suitable for heavy vehicles.

PLUS said it maintains a zero-tolerance stance towards any negligence that damages highway assets or endangers public safety, adding that enforcement action including legal proceedings will be taken where necessary. The company is also working closely with the Road Transport Department (JPJ) and Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) to strengthen enforcement across its highway network.
