Thunderstorms, heavy rain and strong winds are expected to batter several states across Malaysia until 7pm, according to the Malaysia Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia).
The warning covers Kinta, Perak Tengah, Kampar, Bagan Datuk, Hilir Perak, Batang Padang and Muallim in Perak; Tumpat, Kota Bharu, Bachok and Pasir Puteh in Kelantan; the whole of Terengganu; Cameron Highlands, Lipis, Raub, Jerantut, Bentong, Temerloh, Maran, Kuantan, Pekan and Rompin in Pahang; Sabak Bernam, Hulu Selangor and Hulu Langat in Selangor; Jelebu in Negeri Sembilan; and Segamat, Kluang, Mersing, Kulai, Kota Tinggi and Johor Bahru in Johor.
In East Malaysia, the warning extends to Daro and Matu in Mukah, Kapit and Bukit Mabong in Kapit, Tatau in Bintulu, Telang Usan in Miri and Limbang in Sarawak, as well as Sipitang, Tenom and Tambunan in Sabah’s Interior, the West Coast, and Beluran in Sandakan.
MetMalaysia said the warning was issued after weather conditions indicated thunderstorms with rainfall intensity exceeding 20mm per hour were imminent or expected to persist for more than an hour.
The department noted that thunderstorm warnings are short-term advisories, with each issuance remaining valid for no longer than six hours.
