Comedy legend Will Ferrell returns in a new sports comedy TV series, “The Hawk”.
It’s the kind of comeback story professional athletes dream of. Lonnie “The Hawk” Hawkins (Will Ferrell), 2004’s number one golfer, struggles on the back nine of his career to recapture his magic. His body says retire, but his heart says he’s not done yet. “In golf, there is a saying: play it as it lies,” Hawkins narrates in the teaser. And that’s exactly what the aspiring champion will do, whether the ball is lying at the bottom of a sand trap or flying into an innocent pedestrian’s face.
Lonnie’s return to the world stage comes more than two decades after his seminal 2004 season. He’s bringing along his entire entourage: son Lance, a pro golfer in his own right; estranged wife Stacy; Lance’s fiancée, social-media influencer Natalie; and new caddie Sam. Of course, there are still old rivals left to vanquish: Golden Fisk, the pro golfer who’s beaten Lonnie twice; PGA TOUR board member Anton; even Stacy’s new beau, Radford. No one ever said this would be easy.
Ferrell also created and executive produced the series, alongside Jessica Elbaum and Alix Taylor for Gloria Sanchez Productions; Rian Johnson, Ram Bergman, and Nena Rodrigue for T-Street; Chris Henchy; Harper Steele; David Gordon Green; and Andrew Guest. The PGA TOUR is a partner on the series.
Aside from Will Ferrell, Saturday Night Live co-star Molly Shannon is Lonnie’s ex-wife Stacy, Jimmy Tatro is Lonnie’s son Lance, Fortune Feimster is Lonnie’s caddie Sam, Katelyn Tarver as Lonnie’s new fiancé Natalie, with Luke Wilson as Lonnie’s rival Golden Fisk, Chris Parnell as PGA TOUR board member Anton, and David Hornsby as Stacy’s beau Radford.
The Hawk officially lands on Netflix on July 16, 2026, perfect for a summer watch.
