Government To Overhaul Foreign Worker Management, Parks Entirely Under MOHR

The government has announced that it will overhaul the foreign worker employment policies after a series of overlaps and unclear processes.

Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi stated that this decision reached during a Special Cabinet Committee Meeting on Foreign Workers, which he chaired at Parliament today.

A central element of the restructuring involves shifting the centralised One-Stop Centre (OSC) for foreign worker management entirely under the purview of the Ministry of Human Resources (MOHR).

“Our ultimate goal is to ensure that the foreign worker management system operates with a higher level of efficiency and integrity,” Ahmad Zahid shared via a social media update. “At the same time, we must carefully balance real industry demands, national security concerns, and domestic job opportunities for local citizens.”

As part of the structural revamp, the Cabinet committee agreed to redefine the membership and official terms of reference governing foreign worker oversight. Ahmad Zahid emphasised that the government will reassess national manpower demands using a highly targeted approach based on the specific, verified needs of various economic sectors.

Concurrently, the administration is reinforcing its long-term economic goal of reducing Malaysia’s heavy reliance on low-skilled foreign labou.

Ahmad Zahid assured the business community and the public that all upcoming policy shifts will remain rooted in safeguarding national interests and supporting sustainable economic growth.
