Plus Xnergy Services Sdn Bhd has deployed a 20-megawatt-hour (MWh) Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) at a major food manufacturing facility in Perak to help industrial users lower electricity costs and improve energy efficiency.
Developed in collaboration with global energy storage solutions provider HyperStrong, the BESS, one of Malaysia’s largest single-deployment self-consumption (SELCO) energy storage projects, is now fully connected to the grid and commercially operational.
Plus Xnergy Group Chief Executive Officer Ko Chuan Zhen said the system charges during off-peak periods and discharges during peak demand hours, enabling the manufacturer to optimise energy usage, smooth load fluctuations, improve local power supply stability and reduce Maximum Demand charges.
“We are projecting an annual savings of around RM1.25 million for every 10MWh of BESS deployed, depending on a customer’s load profile under the Regulatory Period 4 (RP4) framework.
“This project serves as a live business case for energy-intensive sectors, including large-scale food processing and heavy manufacturing, seeking to enhance their competitiveness while fulfilling corporate sustainability goals,” he said.
Ko highlighted that the project combines Plus Xnergy’s engineering capabilities with HyperStrong’s HyperBlock III AC-coupled integrated BESS technology, which integrates the battery system with a Power Conversion System to deliver higher efficiency within a compact footprint.
He then shared that the latest deployment expands Plus Xnergy’s nationwide portfolio to 100MWh of completed and ongoing BESS projects.
