Bintulu Port Holdings Berhad announced that its wholly-owned subsidiary, Bintulu Port Sdn. Bhd. (BPSB), has received approval in principle from the Sarawak Government to be appointed as the operator of Bintulu Port following the port’s transition from a federal port to a state port.
The company said the Sarawak Government, through the Ministry of Infrastructure and Port Development Sarawak (MIPD), together with the Bintulu Port Authority (Sarawak) (BPA(S)) and BPSB, will enter into an Agreement in Principle (Heads of Agreement) pending the finalisation and execution of the Port Operation Concession Agreement (POCA).
Pending the completion of the POCA, BPSB will continue to control, manage and operate Bintulu Port’s port undertakings in accordance with applicable laws and the terms agreed between the parties.
The development follows the earlier announcement on June 23, 2026, regarding the cheque handover ceremony held on June 21 to mark Bintulu Port’s change of status from a federal port to a state port.
