Over 30,000 Approved For Higher BUDI Diesel Quota As Programme Expands Nationwide

More than 30,000 consumers have been approved for an increased BUDI Diesel quota of 300 litres, up from the previous 200 litres, following feedback from small businesses and rural users with higher fuel needs.

Finance Minister II Datuk Seri Amir Hamzah Azizan said the additional quota was introduced to support small traders, hawkers and service providers who rely on diesel in larger quantities for their daily operations.

“As of yesterday, more than 30,000 people have applied for and received approval,” he said.

The enhancement is among several measures rolled out as the BUDI Diesel programme expands nationwide from today.

Amir Hamzah said the government has also introduced a mechanism allowing BUDI Diesel recipients to transfer their subsidised diesel quota to an immediate family member if the vehicle is registered under a different family member’s name but used by them.

As of yesterday, more than 1,000 applications for such transfers had been received.

To further streamline the programme, the Ministry of Finance (MOF) announced that the Road Transport Department (RTD) will waive diesel vehicle ownership transfer fees for three months beginning July 1, potentially saving owners up to RM100.

RTD counters at all state offices and Urban Transformation Centre (UTC) branches will also operate on weekends from July 4 to July 31, between 8am and 5pm, to facilitate ownership transfers.

Under the new transfer mechanism, BUDI Diesel recipients may transfer their subsidised diesel eligibility once to an immediate family member, including a spouse, parent, child or sibling, subject to verification. Once approved, the recipient can purchase subsidised diesel using their own MyKad based on the original owner’s eligibility.

Separately, Amir Hamzah said the subsidised BUDI Diesel price has been reduced to RM2.10 per litre from RM2.15 per litre effective today, following savings generated from lower diesel subsidy leakages.

He added that the programme’s early rollout in Peninsular Malaysia since June 27 has proceeded smoothly, with nearly 80,000 users already benefiting from the scheme. More than 700,000 users are expected to qualify for the programme nationwide.

He said the government will continue refining the implementation of BUDI Diesel to make the programme more accessible and user-friendly.
