Malaysia has appointed Minister of Agriculture and Food Security Datuk Seri Mohamad Sabu as its official representative to attend the state funeral of Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei, in Tehran on July 3, 2026.
The Foreign Affairs Ministry said Mohamad, commonly known as Mat Sabu, will attend the official ceremony on Malaysia’s behalf and is tasked with conveying condolences to the Iranian government and its people.
The minister is also expected to hold engagements with Iranian leadership during the visit, where he will formally express Malaysia’s sympathies and reaffirm diplomatic goodwill following the passing of the Supreme Leader.
The ministry said it is deeply saddened by the development and stands in solidarity with Iran during its period of mourning, reflecting ongoing bilateral ties between both countries.
