NFCC: Azam Baki’s Advisory Role Is Personal Appointment, Not Tied To MACC Post

The National Financial Crime Prevention Centre (NFCC) has clarified that Tan Sri Azam Baki’s position on its advisory board was made in a personal capacity and is not linked to his former role as Chief Commissioner of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC).

NFCC Director-General Datuk Seri Shamshun Baharin Mohd Jamil said the appointment, which runs from Sept 20, 2024, to Sept 19, 2027, was made with the consent of the Yang di-Pertuan Agong and remains valid for the full three-year term unless terminated earlier by royal decree.

He stressed that Azam’s membership is independent of his MACC post, noting that the appointment is based on individual capacity under the NFCC’s advisory framework.

“As such, his attendance at the NFCC Advisory Board meeting on June 30 was in line with Act 822, as he is a duly appointed member of the board,” he said in a statement.

The clarification follows media reports that Opposition leader Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin had questioned Azam’s role within the NFCC advisory structure.

The NFCC reiterated that all advisory appointments are formally governed and remain effective throughout their designated terms unless officially revoked.
