Housing Minister Explains Why Federal Govt Crucial In Johor Development

Housing and Local Government Minister Nga Kor Ming has said that close coordination between the Federal Government and the Johor state administration is central to accelerating development and sustaining long-term economic growth in Johor.

He said federal involvement is crucial in ensuring development plans, infrastructure projects and public initiatives are implemented in a more coordinated and efficient manner, adding that stronger alignment between both levels of government has helped speed up delivery on the ground.

Nga said Malaysia is currently on the right track under the MADANI administration, with Johor standing to benefit further from continued federal support in investment facilitation, infrastructure development and public service delivery.

He pointed to Johor’s RM110 billion in investments secured last year through the Malaysian Investment Development Authority (MIDA), describing it as an example of how policy consistency and intergovernmental cooperation can help attract capital and sustain economic momentum.

Building on that, he said stable relations between federal and state governments remain essential in maintaining investor confidence, while also supporting job creation and more structured long-term development planning.

Nga also broadened the context to national performance indicators, noting that Malaysia recorded RM3.1 trillion in total trade in 2025 alongside foreign direct investment inflows of RM426.7 billion, reflecting continued economic resilience despite global uncertainty.

He further cited improvements in governance and investor sentiment, including Malaysia’s rise in the Corruption Perceptions Index from 67th to 54th place, as well as Moody’s revised A3 stable outlook for the country’s credit rating.

Against this backdrop, he said Malaysia’s ongoing international engagements, including strategic economic partnerships and long-term energy cooperation agreements, continue to reinforce macroeconomic stability.

Nga said these factors collectively underline the importance of sustained federal-state cooperation, particularly in Johor, to ensure development remains inclusive, structured and aligned with national priorities.
