Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim claimed that several political parties are working together to topple his administration because of its uncompromising stance against corruption and abuse of power.
Speaking at a Pakatan Harapan (PH) campaign event in Johor, Anwar said the government’s firm approach in preventing leaders from misusing public office for personal gain had made certain quarters uncomfortable.
“That’s why you see all these parties joining forces to bring me down. They know we are strict. They know we safeguard public interests,” he said.
The PH chairman stressed that he remained unfazed by the political pressure, saying his administration was guided by a clear principle of ensuring leaders do not exploit their positions to acquire land, projects, shares or personal wealth.
Highlighting his own record, Anwar said despite visiting Johor numerous times as prime minister, he had never taken land, secured projects or acquired shares in the state.
“We must teach our elected representatives to uphold these principles,” he said.
Anwar urged Johor voters to give PH the mandate to govern the state, arguing that an administration aligned with the Federal Government would enable development projects, welfare programmes and assistance for the people to be implemented more effectively.
He said that despite Johor receiving billions of ringgit in development investments, fundamental issues such as affordable housing, roads, mosques, places of worship and aid for the needy still required greater attention.
“Development is growing and billions are being invested, but people’s homes remain expensive. Johor is a wealthy state. We don’t want only a handful of people to become rich while many others remain poor,” he said.
Anwar also defended PH’s cooperation with DAP, dismissing claims that the party had opposed Malay or Islamic interests.
“I have been prime minister for three-and-a-half years, and not once have DAP ministers opposed programmes for the Malays or Islam. You can check the record,” he said.
