TVET Commission Set To Be Finalised by Year-End

The establishment of a dedicated Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) Commission to replace the National TVET Council is expected to be finalised by the end of this year, Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said.

Zahid said stakeholder engagement sessions are currently underway before a Cabinet paper is submitted for approval.

“Although the policy approval has been obtained, the legislative process required to table the proposal in the Dewan Rakyat and Dewan Negara is still ongoing,” he said.

He said the proposed commission would go beyond policy-making by overseeing the implementation and enforcement of TVET-related policies, similar to commissions established in many developed countries.

“I believe everything will be finalised by the end of this year, and we will table it in both the Dewan Rakyat and Dewan Negara,” he said.

On the MARA TVET Roadshow, Zahid said the nationwide programme aims to promote TVET education and opportunities across the country.

He noted that MARA currently operates 270 TVET institutions, alongside two universities offering technical diploma and degree programmes.

Zahid added that the employability rate of MARA TVET graduates has reached 99.5%, describing it as the highest recorded so far, with the government targeting full employability through a greater focus on high-value TVET programmes.
