Mandarin Oriental Gives Mooncake Season A Malaysian Refresh

The Mid-Autumn Festival may still be months away, but Mandarin Oriental Kuala Lumpur is already rolling out its 2026 mooncake collection, with this year’s edition placing the spotlight on Malaysian-inspired design alongside a mix of classic and contemporary flavours.

The collection is built around three ranges—Timeless Tradition, Snow Skin and Artisanal Chocolate—offering familiar favourites alongside newer additions.

Traditional baked mooncakes include lotus paste with salted egg yolk, pandan paste and mixed nuts, while the Snow Skin selection features flavours such as Musang King durian, pistachio cream cheese and bird’s nest with rose.

The biggest addition this year is the new Hazelnut-Fig Chocolate mooncake, introduced as part of the Artisanal Chocolate collection.

Other chocolate flavours include Pistachio Kataifi, Mango-Passion with Rice Crispy, and Dulcey Caramel with Peanut, reflecting the growing demand for dessert-inspired mooncakes.

Beyond the flavours, Mandarin Oriental has refreshed its packaging with a design inspired by Malaysia’s tropical rainforest. The celadon green gift boxes feature illustrations of native flora alongside the hornbill, a bird often associated with family and community.

For those looking beyond the traditional gift box, the hotel is also introducing a limited-edition tiffin set. Produced in collaboration with Malaysian social enterprise Tiffin Jeiwa, the hand-painted steel container includes six traditional mooncakes and two Chinese tea sachets. Only 150 sets will be available, positioning it as the collection’s standout gifting option.

Customers can also customise their own four-piece or eight-piece boxes by selecting flavours across the three collections, offering more flexibility than the standard assortments.

The collection will be available from July 7 at the Mandarin Oriental Cake Shop, with early bird and bulk purchase offers running ahead of the Mid-Autumn Festival season.
