The government has decided that employee contributions for the Social Security Organisation’s (Socso) Non-Employment Injury Scheme, or LINDUNG 24 Jam, will no longer be mandatory and will instead be voluntary with immediate effect.
Government spokesperson Datuk Fahmi Fadzil said the decision was made during the Cabinet meeting on July 8 after Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim raised feedback received on the implementation of the 0.75% salary contribution by employees for the scheme.
The LINDUNG 24 Jam scheme provides protection for workers against non-work-related accidents, extending coverage beyond incidents that occur during employment.
“Following the feedback received, the Cabinet has decided that the contribution will no longer be mandatory, but voluntary, with immediate effect,” Fahmi said, adding that the Human Resources Ministry would issue a further announcement on the details of the decision.
