Thailand Prime Minister (PM) Anutin Charnvirakul will undertake a two-day official visit to Malaysia beginning July 9, aimed at strengthening bilateral cooperation in trade and investment, border connectivity, agriculture and regional collaboration between the two ASEAN neighbours.
The visit, at the invitation of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, marks Anutin’s first official trip to Malaysia since his reappointment in March 2026 and comes as both countries seek to build on growing economic ties and enhance cross-border connectivity.
During the visit, Anwar and Anutin are expected to review the progress of Malaysia-Thailand relations and explore deeper cooperation across key sectors, including trade and investment, security, tourism, education and people-to-people exchanges. The two leaders will also exchange views on regional and international developments within the ASEAN framework.
A key outcome of the visit will be the signing of a memorandum of understanding on agricultural cooperation, underscoring both countries’ commitment to expanding collaboration in the sector.
On July 10, the two PMs will jointly officiate the opening of a new road linking the Immigration, Customs, Quarantine and Security Complex in Bukit Kayu Hitam, Kedah, with the Customs, Immigration and Quarantine Complex in Sadao, Thailand, a move expected to improve cross-border trade and the movement of people between the neighbouring countries.
The visit forms part of ongoing high-level exchanges between Malaysia and Thailand following Anwar’s working visit to Bangkok in April 2025 and the visit by Thailand’s former PM to Malaysia in December 2024.
Thailand remained Malaysia’s sixth-largest trading partner globally and second-largest within ASEAN in 2025, with total bilateral trade reaching RM118.57 billion. Trade continued its upward trajectory in the first quarter of 2026, rising to RM31.33 billion from RM27.35 billion recorded in the corresponding period last year.
