More Than 300,000 Voters Returning For Johor Election, Highway Congestion Likely

The Malaysian Highway Authority (LLM) expects traffic on highways, particularly routes leading into Johor, to increase ahead of the Johor state election polling day on 11 July 2026, with more than 300,000 outstation voters expected to return to cast their ballots.

LLM advised motorists travelling into or through Johor to plan their journeys earlier to avoid congestion along major routes, as a higher volume of vehicles is expected during the election period.

To ensure smoother traffic flow and safer journeys, lane closure works on highways will be suspended on polling day, except for emergency works.

LLM also reminded highway users to ensure their vehicles are in good condition, maintain sufficient balances in Touch ’n Go, e-wallets and debit cards, comply with speed limits and remain cautious at areas affected by ongoing construction.

Motorists travelling along the North-South Expressway between Simpang Renggam and Senai (North) were advised to be careful due to third lane expansion works. Drivers were also reminded to follow instructions during smart lane activation and take rest breaks at designated rest and service areas as well as lay-bys throughout their journey.
