Bursa Malaysia Ends Lower As West Asia Tensions Weigh On Sentiment

Bursa Malaysia closed lower on July 9 as renewed geopolitical tensions in West Asia dampened investor sentiment, with the benchmark index retreating nearly six points.

The FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI (FBM KLCI) ended the session down 5.97 points, or 0.36%, at 1,677.64, compared to its previous close of 1,683.61.

The broader market was mixed, with the FBM 70 gaining 39.29 points to 17,797.64, while the FBM EMAS slipped 21.53 points to 12,440.48.

Trading activity was dominated by newly ACE Market listed SRKK AI Bhd, which emerged as the most actively traded stock with 103.11 million shares changing hands as the artificial intelligence solutions provider gained 29 sen to 61 sen, following strong investor interest.

Other actively traded counters included Zetrix AI Bhd, which fell 2.5 sen to 72.5 sen with 80.34 million shares traded, while Dagang NeXchange Bhd added one sen to 44 sen after 41.43 million shares changed hands.

NationGate Holdings Bhd rose 0.5 sen to 80.5 sen, with 29.5 million shares traded, while Tanco Holdings Bhd gained 0.5 sen to 19 sen on 24.54 million shares traded.

The market ended lower as investors remained cautious over global geopolitical developments and their potential impact on risk appetite.
