China’s Consumer Inflation Accelerates In June, Highest In Several Months

China’s consumer inflation accelerated in June, with the country’s Consumer Price Index (CPI) rising 1.0% year-on-year, signalling a firmer recovery in domestic prices after a prolonged period of subdued inflation.

Data released by China’s National Bureau of Statistics on Thursday showed the CPI increased 1.0% in June from a year earlier, marking an improvement from previous months and reflecting strengthening consumer demand alongside easing deflationary pressures.

The CPI is the country’s main measure of inflation and tracks changes in the prices of a basket of goods and services purchased by households.

The latest reading comes as Chinese policymakers continue efforts to bolster domestic consumption and support economic growth through targeted fiscal and monetary measures amid ongoing external uncertainties.

A pickup in inflation may provide some reassurance that demand conditions are gradually improving, although price growth remains relatively modest compared with many major economies.
