Mooncake Season Returns With Flavours Ranging From Double Yolk To Toffee Butterscotch

Mooncake season has become more than an annual tradition. It’s also a chance for hotels and pastry kitchens to introduce new flavours, fresh designs and gift sets that appeal to modern celebrations.

Shangri-La Kuala Lumpur is joining the season with its 2026 Mid-Autumn Festival Mooncake Collection, available from July 8 to September 25. Crafted by the team at Shang Palace, the range combines familiar favourites with several new additions.

The baked collection features nine flavours. Classics such as White Lotus Seed Paste, Lotus Seed Paste with Double Yolk and White Lotus Seed Paste with Yolk return for the festival.

Other options include Pandan Lotus Seed Paste with Yolk, Assorted Nuts and Sun-Dried Fruits, Yuzu Lotus Seed Paste with Bird’s Nest, Custard Lava and Red Bean Paste with 40-Year-Old Dried Tangerine Peel. New for this year is Toffee Butterscotch, which adds caramel notes to the traditional mooncake lineup.

The snowskin range offers a lighter alternative. Flavours include Matcha Strawberry, Musang King, Bird’s Nest and Coconut, and Black Sesame with Nutella.

The gift boxes have also received attention this year. Inspired by peonies and traditional coin motifs, the keepsake designs are understated and contemporary without straying too far from Mid-Autumn symbolism.

For those who prefer to customise their selection, the Moonlit Blossom Gift Set lets customers choose any four full-sized baked mooncakes, priced from RM43 per piece.

There are also several ready-made gift sets. The Crimson Treasures Gift Set (RM358) includes Red Bean Paste with 40-Year-Old Dried Tangerine Peel, Lotus Seed Paste with Double Yolk, White Lotus Seed Paste with Yolk and Custard Lava. The Shang Palace Imperial Bloom Gift Set (RM358) features Yuzu Lotus Seed Paste with Bird’s Nest, Lotus Seed Paste with Double Yolk, Pandan Lotus Seed Paste with Yolk and Red Bean Paste with 40-Year-Old Dried Tangerine Peel.

For bigger gatherings, the Lunar Fortune Gift Set (RM488) includes eight full-sized mooncakes covering both classic and premium flavours.

Those after smaller bites can look at the Lunar Blossom Collection. The Snowskin Collection is priced at RM318 for eight mini mooncakes, while the Mini Baked Mooncakes set is RM338. Durian lovers can opt for the Golden Musang King set, priced at RM528, which includes eight premium Musang King snowskin mooncakes.

With a mix of classic baked mooncakes, snowskin varieties and gift sets at different price points, Shangri-La Kuala Lumpur’s 2026 collection offers plenty of options for those planning family gatherings, festive visits or seasonal gifting.
