Johor’s 1,076 polling centres opened at 8 am on Saturday, marking the start of voting in the Johor state election, with clear weather reported across most of the state except for rain in Muar.
A total of 2.7 million registered voters are eligible to cast their ballots at 4,889 polling streams to elect representatives for the 56-seat State Legislative Assembly. Voting will continue until 6 pm, although several polling centres in constituencies with fewer voters are scheduled to close in stages from as early as 11 am.
The election features 172 candidates, comprising 12 four-cornered contests, 27 three-cornered contests and 14 straight fights.
Security personnel were deployed at polling centres to ensure the voting process proceeded smoothly, while media crews gathered from as early as 7 am to cover developments.
The Election Commission is targeting a voter turnout of around 70%, with full results expected as early as 10 pm.
