Nearly 35% of registered voters had cast their ballots by midday in the Johor state election, according to the Election Commission (EC), with polling progressing smoothly despite intermittent rain across several parts of the state.
The turnout was described as encouraging, as voters continued to head to polling centres despite wet weather conditions that affected parts of Johor throughout the morning.
Election Commission officials said voter participation remained steady across constituencies, with polling stations reporting orderly queues and no major disruptions.
Despite the rainy conditions, the EC has maintained its projection of achieving a 70% overall voter turnout by the close of polling, expressing confidence that more voters will arrive during the afternoon as weather conditions improve and temperatures become more comfortable.
The commission noted that turnout typically accelerates after midday, with many voters preferring to cast their ballots later in the day.
Polling stations opened at 8.00am and are scheduled to close at various times depending on the constituency, with most centres expected to end voting by 6.00pm.
Election officials have urged eligible voters who have yet to cast their ballots to do so early and avoid waiting until the final hours of polling, while continuing to follow instructions from polling staff to ensure a smooth voting process.
Vote counting will commence immediately after polling closes, with official results expected to be announced progressively throughout the evening.
