Govt Approves RM27.2 Million For ECRL-Related Projects In Kelantan

The government has approved 46 development projects worth RM27.2 million for the Pasir Puteh parliamentary constituency in Kelantan this year as part of efforts to strengthen economic growth and maximise opportunities from the East Coast Rail Link (ECRL).

Deputy Economy Minister Datuk Mohd Shahar Abdullah said the projects include land acquisition and infrastructure development for the Cerang Tuling industrial area, which will support downstream industrial activities near the ECRL cargo station.

He said the Economy Ministry, through the East Coast Economic Region Development Council, is also undertaking a study to strengthen the East Coast’s supply and value chains to support regional development.

The study aims to enhance the food value chain while identifying initiatives to leverage strategic infrastructure, including the ECRL.

Among the proposals under consideration is the development of collection, processing and packaging centres near ECRL stations to improve access to domestic and international markets.

Mohd Shahar said the initiatives are expected to strengthen regional connectivity, improve logistics efficiency and create greater value for businesses and the agriculture sector.

He was responding to a question from Pasir Puteh MP Datuk Dr Nik Muhammad Zawawi Salleh during the Dewan Rakyat sitting on Monday.
