Malaysia has sufficient food supplies, including rice reserves that can last for six months, while the price of local white rice will remain at RM2.60 per kg, Economy Minister Akmal Nasrullah Mohd Nasir said.
Speaking after the National Economic Action Council (MTEN) meeting, Akmal Nasrullah said the government is maintaining the price of local white rice to shield consumers from higher food costs amid global uncertainties.
He added that prices of most essential goods remain stable, with several items recording declines as of July 12. The average price of chicken edged down 0.04% to RM10.09 per kg, while ikan kembung fell 1.37% to RM15.81 per kg.
Fresh coconut milk recorded the steepest drop, declining 6.05% from RM16.54 to RM15.54 per kg.
Meanwhile, Akmal Nasrullah said the government has distributed RM45.98 million to 118,908 paddy farmers in Peninsular Malaysia through the Paddy Farmers Plowing Incentive, understanding the pressures faced by farmers due to climate change and rising production costs.
