Thunderstorms, heavy rain and strong winds are expected to hit parts of six states until 8pm today, according to the Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia).
The affected areas are Perlis; Kedah (Langkawi and Kubang Pasu); Perak (Batang Padang and Muallim); Pahang (Raub, Bentong, Bera and Rompin); and Johor (Kluang, Mersing and Kota Tinggi).
MetMalaysia said the warning was issued after weather indicators showed thunderstorms capable of producing rainfall exceeding 20mm per hour were occurring or expected to persist for more than one hour.
The department noted that thunderstorm warnings are short-term advisories, with each issuance valid for no more than six hours.
