A Stephen King Classic Is Getting A Fresh Take On Prime Video

The first images from Mike Flanagan’s Carrie have been released, offering a first look at Prime Video’s upcoming series adaptation of Stephen King’s debut novel.

The series marks the first television adaptation of Carrie, with Flanagan acting as showrunner, writer and director. Known for horror titles such as The Haunting of Hill House and Midnight Mass, Flanagan will lead the eight-episode series, which is set to arrive on Prime Video this fall.

The story follows Carrie White, a high school student facing bullying, isolation and a strained relationship with her mother, Margaret. The new series brings the story into a modern setting, exploring how social media and online harassment shape Carrie’s experience as she navigates school life and her emerging telekinetic abilities.

Leading the cast is Summer Howell as Carrie White, following a casting search that saw more than 1,000 actors audition for the role. Joining her in the cast are Samantha Sloyan as Margaret White, Siena Agudong as Sue Snell, Alison Thornton as Chris Hargensen and Amber Midthunder as Miss Desjardin.

While the series remains based on King’s 1974 novel, Flanagan’s adaptation will expand the story by exploring the characters and events that lead to its infamous final act. The eight episodes will focus on the choices, conflicts and relationships that shape Carrie’s transformation.

First published in 1974, Carrie was Stephen King’s debut novel and introduced many of the themes that would define his later work. The story was previously adapted into Brian De Palma’s 1976 film, which became one of the most recognised versions of King’s writing on screen.

Produced by Amazon MGM Studios, Carrie will premiere exclusively on Prime Video this fall. An exact release date has not yet been announced.
