MPs Given Until Oct 30 To Submit Health Reports, Says Parliamen Speaker

Dewan Rakyat Speaker Tan Sri Dr Johari Abdul has asked all Members of Parliament (MPs) to submit their health reports by Oct 30 to ensure Parliament has early access to their medical information in the event of emergencies.

Johari said having the records would allow faster action to be taken if any lawmaker requires urgent medical treatment, as the information could be provided directly to hospitals when needed.

“It is important for Parliament to have these health reports of because if anything happens to an MP, we will already have the necessary information.

“So, if we have to send an MP to hospital, we can immediately forward the information we have to the hospital,” he said before the Minister’s Question Time session in the Dewan Rakyat on Tuesday.

He added that MPs who choose to undergo medical examinations outside Parliament are allowed to do so, but their medical reports or examination documents must be submitted to Parliament’s doctor on duty for record-keeping.

Johari had earlier reminded lawmakers on July 8 to take regular health check-ups seriously following reports that a MP had received treatment at the National Heart Institute.
