Samsung Overtakes Apple To Lead Global Smartphone Market In Q2

Samsung Electronics has regained its position as the world’s largest smartphone maker in the second quarter, overtaking Apple as strong Galaxy S26 sales lifted its global market share.

Samsung accounted for 24% of worldwide smartphone shipments between April and June, ahead of Apple’s 20% share, according to data from Counterpoint Research.

The South Korean technology giant had trailed Apple in the first quarter, when the US company led the market with a 21% share compared with Samsung’s 20%.

Counterpoint attributed Samsung’s second-quarter performance to strong demand for the Galaxy S26 series, relatively limited price increases in key markets including India and the Middle East, as well as aggressive promotional campaigns.

However, the broader smartphone market faced significant pressure during the quarter due to an ongoing memory chip supply shortage. Global smartphone shipments fell 11% year-on-year, marking the weakest second-quarter performance since 2013, according to Counterpoint.

The decline highlights continued challenges facing smartphone manufacturers as supply constraints and higher component costs weigh on the industry, despite stronger performances from major players such as Samsung.
