Flash Flood Risk As Thunderstorms Hit Nine States Until 5pm

The Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) has issued a thunderstorm warning for several states, with heavy rain and strong winds expected until 5pm today.

The warning covers Perak (Hulu Perak, Kuala Kangsar, Kinta, Kampar, Batang Padang and Muallim), Kelantan (Jeli), Terengganu (Besut, Setiu, Hulu Terengganu and Kemaman), Pahang (Cameron Highlands, Lipis and Raub), Selangor (Hulu Selangor), Negeri Sembilan (Seremban, Kuala Pilah and Rembau), Johor, Sarawak (Daro, Matu, Dalat and Mukah in Mukah Division, Bintulu, Subis and Beluru in Miri Division, and Lawas in Limbang Division), as well as parts of Sabah, including Sipitang, Tambunan and the West Coast.

MetMalaysia said the warning is issued when there are indications of thunderstorms producing rainfall exceeding 20mm per hour that are imminent or expected to persist for more than an hour.

The department noted that thunderstorm warnings are short-term alerts, with each issuance remaining valid for no more than six hours.

Residents in the affected areas are advised to remain alert to the latest weather updates and take necessary precautions against possible flash floods, strong winds and hazardous road conditions.
