Thunderstorms, Heavy Rain To Lash Multiple States Until 6pm

The Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) has issued a thunderstorm warning for several states, with heavy rain and strong winds expected until 6pm today.

The affected areas in Perak are Hulu Perak, Kuala Kangsar, Kinta, Kampar and Batang Padang, while in Kelantan the warning covers Jeli, Tanah Merah, Machang and Kuala Krai.

In Terengganu, the alert includes Besut, Setiu and Hulu Terengganu, while Pahang’s Cameron Highlands and Raub are also expected to experience adverse weather conditions.

Johor districts under the warning are Tangkak, Muar, Batu Pahat, Pontian, Kulai and Johor Bahru.

In East Malaysia, the warning covers Serian, Simunjan in Samarahan, Kapit, Sebauh in Bintulu, Miri and Limbang in Sarawak.

For Sabah, the affected areas include Sipitang, Tenom, Kuala Penyu, Beaufort, Keningau and Tambunan in the Interior, as well as the West Coast, Sandakan district and Kudat. Labuan is also under the weather alert.

MetMalaysia said the warning is issued when there are indications of thunderstorms capable of producing rainfall exceeding 20mm per hour that are occurring or expected to persist for more than an hour.

The department said thunderstorm warnings are short-term advisories, with each issuance valid for no more than six hours.
