Around 300,000 visitors are expected to gather at several locations in the capital, including Dataran Merdeka and the Kuala Lumpur Contingent Police Headquarters (IPK), to watch the live screening of the FIFA World Cup final tomorrow night.
According to a report on Buletin TV3, Kuala Lumpur Police Chief Datuk Fadil Marsus said the match will be shown on a giant screen at Dataran Merdeka, which is expected to be the largest of its kind installed in the country.
The screening is part of the Larian Uniti Merdeka programme, held throughout the weekend in conjunction with National Month celebrations. The programme will begin at 8 pm, with the live broadcast continuing until the early hours of Monday.
Fadil said the public, particularly Kuala Lumpur residents, are encouraged to attend, with police expecting a large turnout at the venue.
“We expect around 300,000 visitors to fill Dataran Merdeka on that night alone,” he said after launching the Larian Uniti Merdeka programme today.
Earlier, more than 2,000 participants took part in the five-kilometre run organised by Yayasan Prihatin Nasional in collaboration with Kuala Lumpur Police and several ministries and agencies.
Fadil said the programme also serves as a platform to strengthen engagement between the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) and the community, alongside promoting healthy living.
The Larian Uniti Merdeka programme will continue until Sunday.
