The Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) has issued a thunderstorm warning for parts of nine states, Putrajaya and Sarawak until 1pm today.
The warning covers Kuala Muda in Kedah; the whole of Penang; Machang, Pasir Puteh, Kuala Krai and Gua Musang in Kelantan; Besut, Setiu, Kuala Nerus and Hulu Terengganu in Terengganu; Jerantut and Kuantan in Pahang; Klang, Kuala Langat and Sepang in Selangor; Putrajaya; Seremban, Port Dickson and Rembau in Negeri Sembilan; and Matu, Dalat and Mukah in Sarawak’s Mukah division.
MetMalaysia said the warning is issued when there are indications of thunderstorms with rainfall exceeding 20mm per hour that are occurring or expected to persist for more than an hour.
The department noted that thunderstorm warnings are short-term advisories valid for no more than six hours from the time of issuance.
