Influencer Takes Legal Action Against Maxis Over Alleged Leaked Phone Bill Data

Popular entrepreneur and social media influencer Khairul Aming has initiated legal and regulatory action following the alleged leak of his personal telecommunications records, describing the incident as both “sad” and “frightening” over the ease with which sensitive personal information could be accessed.

In a social media post, Khairul Aming confirmed that his legal team has issued a Letter of Demand (LOD) to telecommunications company Maxis and is taking over the case until its conclusion.

He also revealed that several official reports have been lodged with the relevant authorities, including the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC), the Royal Malaysia Police, and the Personal Data Protection Commissioner (SPDP).

According to Khairul Aming, the reports include:

  • A Letter of Demand sent to Maxis through his lawyers;
  • A formal complaint lodged with the MCMC;
  • A police report filed at the Dang Wangi District Police Headquarters (IPD Dang Wangi) to facilitate investigations into those responsible; and
  • A personal data breach report submitted to the Personal Data Protection Commissioner.

The entrepreneur expressed concern over the extent of the alleged information exposed, saying the leaked data went beyond telephone records.

“Honestly, I feel sad and terrified because privacy can disappear that easily. My phone details, payment history, subscription information, and even my IC number, which can be used to access MySara, were all exposed,” he wrote.

The incident has reignited public debate over personal data protection and the security of customer information held by telecommunications providers.

Khairul Aming’s announcement follows widespread attention over reports that details of his telephone bill had allegedly been accessed and circulated without authorisation, prompting calls from consumer groups for stronger safeguards over personal data and stricter enforcement against unauthorised access.
