HSS Engineers Bhd’s associate, SMHB Sdn Bhd, has secured a RM34.01 million design consultancy contract for the Northern Perak Water Supply Scheme and the proposed sale of excess treated water to Penang.
SMHB accepted the letter of appointment from Gamuda Engineering Sdn Bhd on July 28 for lead design consultancy and detailed design services under the project.
The 66-month contract, commenced in June 2026, covers lead design work for the overall scheme, as well as detailed consultancy for its water treatment plant.
Its scope includes preliminary, pre-final and final designs, tender-stage assistance and support throughout construction and the defects liability period.
HSS Engineers said the contract is expected to contribute positively to the group’s revenue, earnings and net assets over its duration.
The services will be financed through internally generated funds, external borrowings or a combination of both.
While project execution remains dependent on the scheme’s implementation schedule and progress, the group said its experience in similar projects would help mitigate the risks.
