Malaysia’s total trade climbed to RM340.9 billion in June 2026, with both exports and imports recording robust year-on-year growth, driven largely by stronger trade activity in Penang, Johor and Selangor, according to the Department of Statistics Malaysia (DOSM).
Total exports rose 45.4% to RM177.9 billion, while imports increased 43.9% to RM163.0 billion, reflecting continued strength in the country’s external trade performance.
Exports increased by RM55.6 billion compared with June 2025, with Penang contributing the largest increase of RM39.0 billion.
Other states recording notable export gains included:
- Johor: +RM8.7 billion
- Sarawak: +RM4.3 billion
- Selangor: +RM4.0 billion
- W.P. Kuala Lumpur: +RM880.4 million
- Perak: +RM567.5 million
- Kedah: +RM178.7 million
- W.P. Labuan: +RM153.8 million
- Negeri Sembilan: +RM99.9 million
Meanwhile, exports declined in several states, including Sabah (-RM547.5 million), Melaka (-RM508.7 million), Pahang (-RM104.6 million), Terengganu (-RM93.7 million), Kelantan (-RM63.3 million) and Perlis (-RM22.1 million).
Penang remained Malaysia’s largest exporting state, accounting for 48.9% of total national exports.
It was followed by:
- Johor: 17.6%
- Selangor: 13.8%
- Sarawak: 6.0%
- W.P. Kuala Lumpur: 3.2%
Malaysia’s imports expanded by RM49.7 billion from a year earlier, supported by stronger import demand across most major trading states.
Penang again recorded the largest increase, with imports rising RM19.5 billion, followed by:
- Johor: +RM11.9 billion
- Selangor: +RM9.2 billion
- W.P. Kuala Lumpur: +RM8.3 billion
- Kedah: +RM1.5 billion
- Negeri Sembilan: +RM748.7 million
- Perak: +RM398.6 million
- Pahang: +RM266.6 million
- Sabah: +RM4.8 million
Imports declined in Melaka (-RM559.7 million), Terengganu (-RM50.0 million), Sarawak (-RM32.6 million), Perlis (-RM31.6 million), W.P. Labuan (-RM17.3 million) and Kelantan (-RM12.4 million).
Penang also remained the country’s largest import hub, accounting for 28.4% of Malaysia’s total imports in June.
The state’s dominance was followed by:
- Johor: 24.2%
- Selangor: 22.6%
- W.P. Kuala Lumpur: 10.9%
- Kedah: 4.6%
The latest figures underscore Penang’s continued position as Malaysia’s principal trading hub, supported by its strong electronics and manufacturing industries, while Johor and Selangor also continued to play significant roles in driving the nation’s trade growth.
