The government has implemented 75% of the Royal Commission of Inquiry’s recommendations on Lembaga Tabung Haji and will accelerate the remaining measures, Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Religious Affairs) Dr Zulkifli Hasan said.
He said the 25 recommendations had placed Tabung Haji on the right track in managing haj deposits and operations, contributing to its Diamond Award for the world’s best haj management during the 1447H/2026 season.
“There is still much more that needs to be done to ensure that this institution, which we cherish, continues to soar higher,” he said, while revealing that the government was open to restructuring Tabung Haji’s governance, including placing its financial, fund and investment management responsibilities under the finance minister while limiting the Religious Affairs Minister’s role to haj management.
The proposal was among recommendations contained in the 211-page RCI report published by the Department of Islamic Development Malaysia on Wednesday. The inquiry examined Tabung Haji’s management and operational issues between 2014 and 2020.
Zulkifli said the remaining recommendations would be implemented after taking into account current realities and other relevant considerations.
