Mizuho Financial Group reported a 45% increase in first-quarter net profit, driven by stronger earnings during the April to June period.
Japan’s third-largest banking group posted a net profit of 422.9 billion yen, equivalent to about US$2.59 billion, compared with 290.5 billion yen in the corresponding quarter a year earlier.
The lender announced the results on Thursday but did not provide further details on the factors behind the earnings growth in its statement.
Mizuho is one of Japan’s largest financial institutions, offering banking, trust and securities services across domestic and international markets.
