Barisan Nasional (BN) and its allies have secured victory in the Negeri Sembilan state election after unofficial results showed the coalition winning a simple majority of 25 seats, enough to form the next state government.
The outcome marks a significant political victory for BN following an intensely fought campaign that saw the coalition mount a strong challenge against the incumbent Pakatan Harapan (PH) administration.
BN Chairman Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi declared the coalition’s success after unofficial tallies indicated that BN and its partners had crossed the threshold required to take control of the 36-seat Negeri Sembilan State Legislative Assembly.
The victory is expected to pave the way for the formation of a new state government, ending weeks of campaigning that focused heavily on economic development, cost-of-living concerns and state governance.
Despite PH losing control of the state, the Democratic Action Party (DAP) delivered a resilient performance by winning nine of the 11 state seats it contested.
Among the notable victories was DAP Secretary-General Anthony Loke, who successfully defended his seat after facing one of the most closely watched contests of the election. His victory allows DAP to retain a significant presence in the Negeri Sembilan legislative assembly despite the coalition’s overall defeat.
Attention will now turn to the appointment of Negeri Sembilan’s next Menteri Besar and the formation of the new state executive council, as BN prepares to assume control of the state administration.
