Pakatan Harapan (PH) will collectively shoulder responsibility for its defeat in the 16th Negeri Sembilan state election, with no individual or group to be singled out for blame, according to the coalition’s Election Director, Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari.
Speaking at PH’s election operations centre on Saturday night following the unofficial results, Amirudin said the coalition’s leadership, from its top ranks to grassroots members, would take collective responsibility for the outcome.
“As leaders of Pakatan Harapan, we accept responsibility collectively. This is not about pointing fingers at any individual, group, community or any particular party,” he said.
“We will shoulder this responsibility together, from the highest level of leadership right down to the grassroots of the organisation.”
Amirudin’s remarks came after unofficial results showed PH suffering a heavy setback in the Negeri Sembilan polls, with the coalition securing only 11 of the 36 seats it contested.
Barisan Nasional (BN) emerged as the biggest winner, capturing 18 seats, while Perikatan Nasional (PN) won seven seats, enabling BN and its allies to form the next state government.
The outcome marks a significant reversal for PH, which had governed Negeri Sembilan since the 2018 general election. The coalition’s defeat is expected to trigger an internal review of its campaign strategy, voter outreach and organisational effectiveness ahead of future elections.
Despite the disappointing result, Amirudin stressed that PH’s leadership would remain united and focus on rebuilding public confidence rather than assigning blame.
Political analysts expect the coalition to conduct a comprehensive post-mortem to assess the factors behind the loss, including changing voter sentiment, local issues and campaign dynamics that contributed to BN’s return to power in the state.
The Election Commission is expected to formally announce the official results after the completion of vote counting and verification across all constituencies.
