Retirement Fund Acquires 5.7 Million Shares In Press Metal Raises Stake To 10.17%

The Employees Provident Fund (EPF) has increased its shareholding in Press Metal Aluminium Holdings Bhd to 10.17% following a series of share acquisitions in the aluminium producer.

The retirement fund acquired a total of 5.74 million Press Metal shares on July 28 through several investment mandates and nominee accounts. The share price closed at 7.96 on Friday up 50% YTD.

The purchases comprised one million shares held under its main account, 1.63 million shares under the EPF-IC account, one million shares through AHAM Asset Management, 1.94 million shares via Nomura and 175,400 shares under its FTEM Islamic mandate.

Following the acquisitions, EPF’s direct interest in Press Metal increased to 838.14 million shares, equivalent to a 10.17% stake.

The fund’s holdings are spread across multiple nominee accounts, with the largest portion of 543.76 million shares held through its principal Citigroup Nominees (Tempatan) account. Additional holdings are managed under various institutional mandates, including EPF-IC, Amundi, AHAM Asset Management, Nomura, Templeton and several Islamic investment portfolios.

The latest purchases reinforce EPF’s position as one of Press Metal’s substantial shareholders.

Press Metal is one of Southeast Asia’s largest integrated aluminium producers, with operations spanning aluminium smelting, extrusion and downstream manufacturing. The company has benefited from sustained global demand for aluminium, particularly from the renewable energy, electric vehicle and infrastructure sectors.

The filing did not disclose the value of the transactions.

EPF’s notice of change was dated July 29 and received by Press Metal on July 31.
