Bintulu Port Appoints Petronas Sudan Country Head Annuar Ismail As Group CEO

Bintulu Port Holdings Berhad has appointed Anuar Ismail as its new Group Chief Executive Officer (CEO), effective Aug. 17, 2026.

The port operator said Anuar, 57, will take over the leadership of the company, bringing with him more than three decades of experience across PETRONAS’ upstream, strategic management and international operations.

Anuar currently serves as Head of State Relations (Senior General Manager) in PETRONAS’ Group Strategic Relations & Communications division, a position he has held since January 2026.

Prior to that, he was Head of Integrated Hydrocarbon Management at Malaysia Petroleum Management (MPM), PETRONAS, between July 2024 and December 2025, where he oversaw the management of the country’s hydrocarbon resources.

His earlier leadership roles within the national oil company include serving as Head of Sarawak Assets at PETRONAS Carigali, Chairman and Country Head of PETRONAS South Sudan, Regional Head of PETRONAS Sarawak Oil Assets, and Head of Operational Excellence at the Upstream Centre of Excellence.

Anuar began his career with PETRONAS Carigali in 1991 and has accumulated extensive operational and management experience through assignments in Malaysia and overseas, including Sudan, the Middle East, Africa and other parts of Asia.

He holds a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from Case Western Reserve University in the United States, graduating in 1990.

Bintulu Port said Anuar does not hold any directorships in other public listed companies and has no family relationship with any director or major shareholder of the company. He also has no conflict of interest with Bintulu Port and does not own any shares in the company or its subsidiaries.

The appointment comes as Bintulu Port continues to play a strategic role in supporting Sarawak’s energy, petrochemical and bulk cargo industries, with the port serving as a key logistics gateway for Malaysia’s LNG exports and other industrial activities. The board is expected to leverage Anuar’s extensive experience in the energy sector and Sarawak operations to strengthen the group’s long-term growth strategy.
