Hextar Global Appoints Dato Ong Choong Yi As Independent Non-Executive Chairman

Hextar Global Berhad has appointed Dato’ Ong Chong Yi as its new Independent Non-Executive Chairman, following a board redesignation that took effect on Aug 6, 2026.

Dato’ Ong, 47, was redesignated from his previous role as Independent Director, a position he had held since joining the board on Jan 1, 2026.

Prior to the redesignation, he chaired Hextar Global’s Nomination and Remuneration Committee and served as a member of the Audit Committee and Risk Management Committee.

His appointment places an experienced public policy and international trade specialist at the helm of the group’s board as Hextar continues to expand its presence across agriculture, industrial chemicals and specialty chemical businesses.

He is also Executive Director of the Belt and Road Initiative Caucus for Asia Pacific (BRICAP), a Council Member of the United Nations Association of Malaysia, and an adviser to the Malaysia-China Chamber of Commerce.

He began his career in the Malaysian civil service in 2004 as an Administrative and Diplomatic Officer, holding several key positions including Assistant Director at the Road Transport Department in Pahang and Selangor, Principal Assistant Director leading the China Unit at the then Ministry of International Trade and Industry (MITI), and Minister Counsellor (Economic Affairs) at the Embassy of Malaysia in China.
