KL20 2026 will expand beyond Kuala Lumpur with events in Penang, Johor and the capital from September to November, targeting investment mobilisation, technology commercialisation and global market access for Malaysian startups.
The nationwide format replaces the previous large-scale, Kuala Lumpur-focused model with a more targeted and results-driven approach.
Economy Minister Akmal Nasrullah Mohd Nasir said the programme was designed to produce tangible investment and commercial opportunities for local companies.
“KL20 is not merely another conference. We want every meeting to create pathways towards investment, technology commercialisation and market access that can accelerate the global growth of Malaysian companies,” he said.
The series will begin with KL20 2026 @ Penang: Silicon Surge on Sept 24, focusing on semiconductors and the electrical and electronics industry. The event will support Malaysia’s ambition to become a regional integrated-circuit design hub.
KL20 2026 @ Johor: Creative Reimagined will follow on Sept 28, spotlighting the creative economy and digital gaming sector while supporting the Johor-Singapore Special Economic Zone and creating high-value employment opportunities for young talent.
The programme will culminate in Kuala Lumpur on Nov 5, with discussions centred on technology talent, capital mobilisation, market access and stronger startup infrastructure.
KL20 2026 is a strategic government initiative aimed at strengthening Malaysia’s startup ecosystem and positioning Kuala Lumpur among the world’s top 20 startup ecosystems by 2030.
According to the Global Startup Ecosystem Report 2026, Kuala Lumpur ranks among the world’s top 31 to 40 emerging startup ecosystems, with an estimated ecosystem value of US$9 billion over the period from the second half of 2023 to 2025.
Strategic partners include Khazanah Nasional, the Retirement Fund Inc, Cradle Fund, Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation, MRANTI, CREST, InvestPenang and state governments.
